The theme of the walk
The lodge is located on Lenkjöchl between Röttal and Windtal at the end of Ahrntal valley, built in 1887. It is in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park and is open from the beginning of July to the end of September. You can get there from Kasern either through the Windtal (valley) or through the Röttal (valley), combining both you can have an excellent loop-tour.
The ascent through Röttal takes you through one of the most beautiful high valleys in our region. From Casere-Kasern you shortly head east to the bed of the Ahr River, crossing the river on a wooden bridge. Always heading east ascending on trail nr. 11 you pass the entrances to the old mine tunnels. Once at the Rötalm (2116 m; rest stop), the terrain gets more interesting as a wide basin of another valley opens up. After a while the terrain gets steeper and rockier until after 3 hours of walking, you reach the Lenkjöchlhütte. The view of the nearby Rötspitze (3495 m) is overwhelming! The descending trail nr. 12 leads you through Windtal. This valley gives us quite another impression. Everything is rougher and wilder as the harsh Tauern wind sweeps through the valley - nomen est omen! Whilst descending, you pass the Labesau Alm and the Prastmann Alm (pastures) near the bottom. Here you take the road back to Kasern or you continue walking on trail nr. 12-13 and pass the Holy Ghost Chapel back to your starting point.
